A full extra day in the Sahara – the relaxed version of the desert crossing
The popular 4-day desert tour offers a hassle-free desert experience compared to the 3-day version: an extra day to explore the Sahara and learn about the lifestyle of the locals. Pass the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, the Ziz palm valley, ride a camel, visit nomads, sleep under the stars and walk through the dramatic Ait Benhaddou.
Pick-up in Fes at around 07:30, short break in Ifrane and a drive through the UNESCO-listed cedar forest of the Middle Atlas, home of the Barbary macaques. After lunch near Midelt, cross the High Atlas and photograph the palm-filled Ziz Valley before arriving in the desert, where you spend the first night in an authentic riad/hotel at the foot of the dunes.
A full day in the Sahara of Erg Chebbi: explore the dunes, meet local nomad families and take a camel trek. Spend a second night under the stars.
Watch the sunrise over the dunes, then drive through Erfoud, the gateway to the desert, to the towering walls of the Todra Gorge. Continue along the "Road of a Thousand Kasbahs" to the Dades Valley, where you spend the night in a riad.
Leave the Dades Valley towards Ouarzazate, known as the "Hollywood of Morocco", and visit the Taourirt Kasbah. Continue to the UNESCO-listed fortified village of Ait Benhaddou, then cross the Atlas Mountains over the Tizi n'Tichka Pass and arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon.
