Sahara camp, Todra Gorge and Ait Benhaddou on the way to the Ochre City
A private 3-day journey from Fes to Marrakech that does not miss the Sahara: varied landscapes, Barbary macaques in the Middle Atlas cedar forests, a camel ride at sunset and a night in a luxury desert camp under the stars. On the way to Marrakech you discover striking kasbahs, stretch your legs in the Todra Gorge and visit the UNESCO-listed Ait Benhaddou.
Your private driver picks you up in Fes at around 07:30 and heads south across the fertile plain. Short stop in Ifrane, the "Switzerland of Morocco", then through the UNESCO-listed cedar forest of the Middle Atlas where Barbary macaques roam. After lunch near Midelt, cross the High Atlas and the palm-filled Ziz Valley to reach the Sahara in the late afternoon.
Watch the sunrise over the dunes, then drive through Erfoud, the gateway to the desert, to the towering walls of the Todra Gorge. Continue along the "Road of a Thousand Kasbahs" to the Dades Valley, where you spend the night in a riad.
Leave the Dades Valley through the Valley of Roses and the palm grove of Skoura, then cross Ouarzazate, the "Hollywood of Africa" (Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, Lawrence of Arabia were filmed here). Take a guided walk around the UNESCO-listed Ait Benhaddou kasbah, then cross the Atlas Mountains over the Tizi n'Tichka Pass (2,260 m) to Marrakech.
